Life after Uni – What is it like for me?

I went to Kingston University from September 2020 to June 2023 and ever since my last hand in in May life has felt a bit strange without the routine and assignments due in.

University wasn’t how I expected it to be due to the impact of Covid and the University Union strikes. My first year was during the pandemic and my second year was still slightly affected which didn’t give me the experience I could have had. But we made the most of it and the best memories.

Now that my time at university is over and graduation day is right around the corner, lots of other students in my situation are probably also in a limbo phase of what do we do next. We have mostly either moved back home already or are waiting out the housing contract till the end. Always getting asked the question “any plans after uni?” or “do you have a job lined up?” which are hard questions to answer because majority of the time we don’t have an answer but wish we did.

To answer those questions on a personal note to me, I don’t have any direct plans. I am actively searching for the job that is right for me, where I can use my full potential and climb the career ladder. But most of all, enjoy being in the journalism industry, which is something I have always wanted to be in.

I myself moved back home pretty soon after the last hand in and saved money on accommodation, which was the best thing I could have done. It is lovely being back home, seeing family and friends I don’t always get to see. One main thing I miss most is the independence of my own place, my own food and space. It does feel very strange, a bit like going back in time. As much as I love my family and friends, and my home town, I cannot wait to move out again. A main reason for this is also the job opportunities in journalism, there just isn’t any in Eastbourne.

I am enjoying my time at home and relaxing but it does get a bit boring and I am eager to get back into a routine and work on something I love. For the time being, the sun, the beach and home is something I will enjoy.
