The Summer I Turned Pretty: Season 2, Ep1-3

It’s not summer without you…

If you’re anything like me, you’ll love a good teen romance show – and it’s even better when it’s set in a gorgeous location. I fell in love with series one that dropped in June 2022 and couldn’t wait for the next one.

I spent the whole morning reading book 2 so I had read the book first, I am so glad I did. Being able to recognise special scenes from the story in the show and how real it is made, makes it all so good. Not even halfway through Ep 1 and I have tears in my eyes.

The trailer, supported by the magical Taylor Swift songs, created even more excitement for fans eagerly waiting the next part of the story.

In the first three episodes we got the funeral, the prom scene, winter in Cousins and a key part of book two, the house being for sale, just to say the least. The first three episodes of The Summer I turned pretty season two hits home to book two in the series, with added elements that bring the story even more to life.

Season two debuts with the absolutely heart-wrenching reveal that Susannah has passed away.

Her death and the way it is explored, honours those real-life experiences where there isn’t always time for long goodbyes – a fact not often explored in teen shows.

It also makes Susannah’s flashback scenes even more meaningful and integral as it speaks to the impact she had in their lives. The flashbacks throughout the episodes and the show, play tribute to the way the book is written and I feel works perfectly in the way Belly is coping with her grief and not being with the love of life – Conrad Fisher.

Despite Jenny Han staying true to the books, such as the death of loving character Susannah, there are some changes we have seen so far – such as her sister selling the summer house rather than the boy’s dad and I am sure there are more to come.

The choice of music has always been spot-on in The Summer I Turned Pretty using artists such as Olivia Rodrigo and of course Taylor Swift following Belly through pivotal moments in her life.

I look forward to the next episodes, which come out weekly on a Friday till the season is over. Not binge watching for sure feels weird.

For now, the first three episodes of The Summer I Turned Pretty is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
