The Upside of Lockdown

When lockdown hit the country in March of this year schools shut all around the country with kids stuck inside with no proper way of learning. Madi Harrison, 19, became the teacher to her 8-year-old twin cousins during the difficult circumstances.

With schools shutting on March 20th, something I was personally affected by as well, all learning was reverted to online or being taught by those at home. Something no one really wanted to see happening.

When speaking to Madi she spoke about how important she felt teaching her cousins from home was and being able to connect more with her family, “ it was nice to be able to focus on family and those close to home”, stating that it helped her grow in “confidence”.

This especially more evident that now at University she is studying Primary teaching. Teaching children on a primary level during lockdown gave Madi some experience to take with her.

She said that “there had to be a balance between play time and learning”, being able to control the difference, which was “stressful at times having that responsibility” but overall being an enjoyable experience.

Looking back, lockdown had some positives to it and people were able to grow as person, have fun on a social media app such as TikTok and also teach those all about the world.

Who knows what the rest of the year may hold, but then again it is 2020.
