World Mental Health Day – 2023

October 10 marks World Mental Health Day and is intended to create awareness about mental health and remove the stigma that can accompany mental health challenges.

It’s a day to raise awareness of mental health problems but more and more of us are aware of mental health. And so many of us still aren’t getting the right support.

As lonely as it feels when you’re struggling with your Mental Health please know you’re not alone. Today is World Mental Health Day, but every day we should talk about our mental health.

The importance of awareness

World Mental Health Day began in 1992 and is based on efforts by the World Federation for Mental Health. Their membership, which spans 150 countries, seeks to bring attention to mental health and its effects across the globe.

The need for mental health awareness and advocacy is significant. In fact, 63% of people said their mental health was poor (35%) or fair (28%), according to a poll by Monster.

You can honor the day by checking in with people you care about. Connection is one of the primary factors in all kinds of wellbeing.

Contact a friend or loved one. If someone you know is struggling with mental health let them know they are not alone.

The World Health Organisation states the World Mental Health Day 2023 is an opportunity for people and communities to unite behind the theme ‘Mental health is a universal human right‘ to improve knowledge, raise awareness and drive actions that promote and protect everyone’s mental health as a universal human right.
